Is it good for children to do atomization with mouth containing atomizer or mask atomizer? What’s the difference?

Every autumn and winter is the season of children’s cough. The weather is dry and the temperature difference between day and night is great, so it is easy to catch cold and cough. When taking children to the hospital, some children do not cooperate with infusion, the doctor will recommend the use of atomization to treat respiratory diseases.

Aerosol therapy is an effective way to treat respiratory diseases, also known as “aerosol inhalation therapy”. Through the atomizing device, the liquid medicine is atomized into relatively small particles, to the aerosol spray, and then through the nasal inhalation or oral breathing way, the drug is inhaled into the respiratory tract and lungs, so as to achieve the role of local treatment. It is usually divided into mask atomizer and mouth atomizer.

Aerosol therapy has many advantages over oral medications or fluids. Because atomizing drugs directly act on the lesion, so the effect is faster, the body has fewer adverse reactions, the child is also easier to cooperate, at least than oral and infusion more acceptable.

The difference between oral nebulizer and mask nebulizer
When the nebulizer is used, the patient needs to bite the head of the nebulizer actively.

When using a mask nebulizer, directly cover the face and inhale through the nose.

When using the oral nebulizer, the drug is directly inhaled into the lower respiratory tract through the mouth, so the drug loss is relatively less, increasing the rate of drug deposition in the lung, reducing the deposition in the nasal cavity and the irritation to the face.

When the mask nebulizer is used, drugs are inhaled through the nasal cavity or oral cavity. Most drugs enter the lower respiratory tract through the nasal cavity. The inhalation depth is shallow, and drugs are mainly absorbed in the nasal cavity and oral mucosa.

Therefore, if the child is older than 3 years old, and easy to cooperate, use mouth atomizer better.

Of course, both oral nebulizer and mask nebulizer have their own advantages. How to choose them should be based on the choice of different drugs for atomization treatment or different treatment sites, and the specific problems should be analyzed.

However, no matter the use of oral nebulizer or mask nebulizer, wash your mouth in time after use to reduce drug residues in the nasal cavity and mouth to prevent infection.
