What’s the difference between a double catheter and a triple catheter?

The catheter, usually made of natural rubber or medical-grade silicone, can be inserted through the urethra into the bladder to drain the patient’s urine. After the catheter is inserted into the bladder, there is a balloon at the end of the catheter, which can fix the catheter to stay in the bladder, but not easy to come out. The catheter is connected to the urine bag to drain urine and assist in clinical diagnosis and bladder treatment.

The catheter is used primarily to drain urine. For example, a catheter may be needed to guide a voiding disorder caused by a variety of causes; For certain procedures, such as abdominal, urological, orthopedic, and gynecological procedures, as well as some that require bed rest, catheters are also used by patients in the ICU, but these patients can have the catheter removed after they leave the ICU; Patients in need of late long-term care, long periods of bed rest or forced positions may wear catheters and urine bags for long periods of time.

Both double – and triple-caved catheters are balloon catheters. The biggest difference is that the triple-caved catheter has an extra balloon that delivers medicine directly to the bladder than the double-caved catheter.

In general, no bladder hemorrhage patients can use double lumen catheter, but for the patients with hematuria, three cavity catheter should be used, because the three cavity catheter can be connected to one of the drainage bag at the same time, the other end connection rinses rinse bladder, bladder with physiological saline can reduce bleeding, prevent urinary blockage caused by bleeding.
